Vinnie Perrone Of Mid-Atlantic Thoroughbred Wins Media Eclipse Award For Feature/Enterprise Writing
The National Thoroughbred Racing Association (NTRA), Daily Racing Form and the National Turf Writers Association today announced that Vinnie Perrone has won the 2008 Media Eclipse Award for Writing in the Feature/Enterprise category for "Recalling Clem Florio's Matchless Gift for Life," a memoir of Perrone's colleague and mentor, the late Clem Florio, longtime Maryland newspaper handicapper and racetrack linemaker, which was published in the Mid-Atlantic Thoroughbred in July 2008.

Guidelines For 38th Media Eclipse Awards Are Announced
The National Thoroughbred Racing Association (NTRA) today released the guidelines for the 2008 Media Eclipse Awards. The awards are presented by the National Thoroughbred Racing Association (NTRA), Daily Racing Form and the National Turf Writers Association for outstanding achievement in the coverage of Thoroughbred racing. Eclipse trophies will be presented to the award winners at the 38th annual Eclipse Awards Dinner on January 26, 2009 at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach in Miami Beach, Fla.

Sixty-Four Horses From Around The U.S. Entered For Saturday's 10th Annual Claiming Crown At Canterbury Park
Sixty-four of the best claiming horses in the country were entered today for Saturday's 10th running of the Claiming Crown at Canterbury Park in Shakopee, Minn. Claiming Crown features seven races, with purses ranging from $50,000 to $150,000 and is open to horses that have started at least once in 2007-08 for claiming prices ranging from $7,500 to $35,000. The 64 entered horses have, collectively, made their most recent starts at racetracks in 17 different U.S. states.

New Federal Bill Would Eliminate Automatic 25% Withholding On Pari-Mutuel Winnings Of $5,000 Or More
A bill was introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives yesterday that would eliminate the automatic 25 percent federal withholding on pari-mutuel winnings of $5,000 or more for bets that carry odds of 300-1 or higher. The "Pari-Mutuel Conformity and Equality Act of 2008" (H.R. 6631) is sponsored by Rep. Charles W. Boustany, Jr. (R-LA).

The National Thoroughbred Racing Association (NTRA) announced today that the August 3 running of Monmouth Park's $1 million Haskell Invitational Presented by Vonage, a Grade I race for three-year-olds that is expected to attract Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner Big Brown, will air live during a 30-minute special from 6:00-6:30 p.m. (ET) on ESPN Classic.
