 Biography and Highlights:  
  • Pronounced "show-honn"
  • Born: Oct. 19, 1960 in Karachi, Pakistan
  • Resident: Floyds Knob, Ind.
  • Family: wife, Noreen, and four children
  • Background: Chowhan grew up in Pakistan and was around horses at an early age through riding
  • He left his homeland to study medicine in the Caribbean before coming to the United States in 1980 following graduation from medical school
  • Chowhan became a U.S. citizen in 1987 and his medical training took him to Washington, D.C. and New York before eventually settling in southern Indiana
  • Chowhan is an oncologist in private practice and along with three other physicians, they partner to operate the Cancer Center of Indiana in New Albany, Ind., just across the Ohio River from Louisville, Ky.
  • Racing and Breeding Operation: Chowhan purchased his first racehorse in 1998, Deep Gold, and that runner went on to win the Deputy Minister Handicap at Gulfstream Park. He's been hooked ever since. "You can't live in southern Indiana and be this close to Louisville and not love the horses," Chowhan says
  • Chowhan owns and operates a small breeding farm on his property in Floyds Knob, housing seven broodmares
  • One of the first mares he purchased was Horns Gray, a multiple stakes winner by Pass the Tab. Her first foal for Chowhan turned out to be Awesome Humor, winner of the 2002 Spinaway Stakes and Adirondack at Saratoga for owner WinStar Farm
  • Chowhan also owns a stallion share in Mutakddim
  • Racing stable consists of five runners, all trained by Bernie Flint, whom he met through a partner, neurosurgeon Dr. Joselito Millan
  • Purchased Runway Model for $260,000 this past February at the Ocala Breeders' Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training.
