 Biography and Highlights:
Born: 1939 in Philadelphia, Pa. Moved to southern New Jersey at age six. Family: Wife Nancy and four sons. Resident: Lives at New Farm in Marlton, NJ. Occupation: Founder and CEO of Unique Industries, a party supply company. Unique Industries holds licensing rights to a number of characters, including Batman, Cabbage Patch Kids, Stuart Little and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Best Horses: New Farm has raced over 30 stakes winners, including Grade I winner Conveyor, plus graded winners Appealing Skier, Meadow Monster, Zuppardo Ardo, Confide, Forest Wildcat, Acres, Mass Market and Delaware Township. Favorite horse was Appealing Skier, who ran 12th in the 1995 Juvenile and 10th in the 1996 Sprint. "It was just his personality," said Novak. "When the horses spend some time here (on the farm), you get to know them and their personality." Delaware Township got his name for two reasons. First, when Novak was younger, he kept his horse in a town then called Delaware Township, which is now known as Cherry Hill, NJ. Second, trainer Ben Perkins, who selected Delaware Township out of the 1998 OBS two-year-old sale, lived in that town. "We were naming a lot of horses for towns in South Jersey," said Novak. Delaware Township was purchased as a two-year-old for $110,000 from Ricky Leppala, agent.
